Expert activities
Platform members work as legal counsels, advisers and consultants to governments, international organisations (such as OSCE, ILO, UNESCO, WHO, World Bank, WTO), non-governmental organisations (such as CIEL, , IELRC, IUCN, WaterLex), and private law firms.
In 2013, Laurence Boisson de Chazournes was appointed to a three-member Advisory Panel established by the World Bank. The Panel was in charge of supporting the assessment of the existing institutional arrangements in the Amu Darya Basin in view of the possible construction of the Totgul dam.
Laurence Boisson de Chazournes and Makane Mbengue participated in the negotiations on the development of the Cooperative Framework Agreement on the Nile River, as well as in the negotiations involved in Guinea鈥檚 accession to the legal framework of the Senegal River.
Moreover, in 2009 Laurence Boisson de Chazournes contributed to the series of side publications of the Third UN World Water Development Report, 鈥淲ater in a Changing World鈥�. She is the author of the Insight on 鈥溾��.
In 2010, Makane Mbengue, in cooperation with , was invited as an expert to advise riparian States of the Senegal River and the Lake Chad Basin to support ratification of the UN Convention on the Law of the Non-navigational Uses of International Watercourses.
In 2010, Christina Leb and Mara Tignino contributed to the development of a report on 芦 禄 in the context of a project of the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI).
In 2011, Mara Tignino developed a project with the first Ombudsman of the Independent Consultation and Investigation Mechanism of the Inter-American Development Bank to examine the practice of investigation and mediation mechanisms of international financial institutions (IFIs).
In 2012, Laurence Boisson de Chazournes and Mara Tignino contributed to the research carried out under the , which was presented at the Doha Climate Change COP in November 2012.
Laurence Boisson de Chazournes and Mara Tignino also carried out the final evaluation of the GEF Project entitled 鈥溾��. Moreover, in September 2014, Mara Tignino and Komlan Sangbana collaborated with the Global Water Partnership and WaterLex to facilitate and organise a meeting with North African representatives to strengthen cooperation on water resources.
For several years, Christina Leb has contributed with her expertise to developing cooperation in the Nile Basin and on other transboundary watercourses. She is a Senior Water Resources Specialist at the World Bank in Washington D.C.
