APDU: Building Community and Visibility for Postdocs
The Postdoc Association of the AV¶ÌÊÓƵ (APDU) has a central role in supporting the postdoctoral community within the Faculty of Sciences at UNIGE. Throughout the year, APDU organizes a range of initiatives designed to promote scientific exchange, networking, and career development amongst the scientific community. These include the Science Club (formerly Biology Club), a series of talks from invited postdocs that share their research within the Faculty of Sciences, monthly social apéros, and the association’s annual event: APDU Postdoc Day.
Last June, the 8th edition of Postdoc Day took place under the leadership of the President Ana Almeida (MOCEL Department), together with a motivated team of postdocs from the Faculty of Sciences. As in previous editions, we invited professors as keynote speakers, featuring Prof. Charlotte Kirchelle (ENS, Lyon), Prof. Jean-Christophe Leroux (ETH, Zurich), and Prof. Erik van Nimwegen (Biozentrum, Basel), who presented inspiring overviews of their current research. Throughout the day, selected postdocs showcased their work through talks and posters, complemented by lively scientific exchanges during the coffee breaks. Industry partners also joined by presenting new products and sponsoring the event. The day concluded with a career session, where UNIGE alumni shared their professional paths, an exchange that sparked large interest and inspired new career-focused activities in the coming year.
This year, the APDU had a turnover of board members. During the General Assembly held on the 13th of November, a new committee was elected: Armando Rubio Ramos as President, Ana Almeida as Vice President, Tristan Guyomar as Secretary, and César Bernat-Silvestre as Treasurer. With renewed energy, the association looks forward to welcoming new members, and continuing to strengthen connections within the postdoctoral community of UNIGE. Looking ahead, APDU’s mission is to increase inclusivity and diversity within the association, not only across the many disciplines of the Faculty of Sciences, but also in terms of gender equality and global representation. We encourage motivated postdocs to volunteer, participate in the ongoing activities, attend our monthly meetings, and even propose new events.
