Rectorate commissions

Commission for Animal Research and Experiments (CARE)

This advisory body deals with research using experimental animals; it may be consulted for ethical, legal, organizational questions related to animal research. It has been created by the UNIGE Rectorate on October 2nd, 2024, for a term of five years, renewable.

Competences

The commission CARE:

       contribute to the preparation of statements and position papers related to animal research;  

       advise on transparency and communication on animal research;

       advise on prevention of disease and protection of the health of personnel involved in animal research;

       establish the conditions for the monitoring of animal research conducted abroad;

       regularly review the directives of the UNIGE 3R prize and appoint the evaluation committee;

       propose candidates to represent the UNIGE in external committees dealing with animal research;

       represent all UNIGE researchers performing animal research.

Composition

Are members of the CARE commission people representing the UNIGE in committees dealing with animal research. In addition, the commission may appoint:

 

       a representative of the UNIGE research groups working at the Campus Biotech;

       a representative of the UNIGE research groups working at the Agora;

       two assistant professors of the faculty of sciences and three of the faculty of medicine performing animal research or developing alternative methods;

       an expert in bioethics.

 

At any time, the Commission may call on other members of the UNIGE community. The UNIGE Director of Animal Research and the Animal Welfare Officer participate in the meetings of the commission, without voting right.
