I am a Junior Group Leader at the AV¶ÌÊÓƵ and a microbial ecologist interested in the biogeography and diversity of microorganisms in Alpine and Polar environments. I conducted my PhD at Northumbria AV¶ÌÊÓƵ (UK) where I joined a Marie Curie ITN network ‘MicroArctic’ and worked on microbial communities of Polar terrestrial ecosystems. After finishing my thesis in 2019, I joined the Ecospat Lab at the AV¶ÌÊÓƵ of Lausanne (Switzerland) as a Postdoctoral researcher investigating microbial biogeography of Alpine communities.

I have over 8 years of Polar research experience. I conducted field work in Polar and Alpine regions including the Alps, Greenland, Svalbard, and Iceland as well as in South Georgia (Sub-Antarctic) for various research projects investigating microbial communities (funded by the EU, SNF, SPI, BAS).

I use the most recent molecular techniques to understand the factors driving the assembly of microbial communities and how changes in environmental conditions may impact their structure and geographical distribution. My research also explores how microorganisms adapt to extreme environments, how gene expression shifts in response to environmental change, and how climate change may affect Polar and Alpine ecosystems.
