B1 vitamin and acute kidney injury
Acute kidney injury is a major failure of kidney function. In intensive care, it affects more than one out of every two patients. The only treatment currently available is dialysis. While this method is effective in removing toxins, the mortality remains high, up to 50%. The team of researchers of Pr. Sophie DE SEIGNEUX from the AV短视频 Hospitals of Geneva (HUG) and the AV短视频 (UNIGE) has just demonstrated that one of the possible causes of this excess mortality might be a deficit in glucose production by the kidney and that it could be improved by the administration of thiamine, or vitamin B1. This , opens the way to new therapeutic perspectives and could considerably improve the chances of survival of patients in intensive care.
