December 16: PhD defence of Mr Amit Kumar
On the 16th of December 2024, Mr Amit Kumar has successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled "Extracellular Nanobody-Based Modulators of the μ-Opioid Receptor". His thesis was conducted under the direction of Pre Miriam Stoeber from the Department of Cell Physiology and Metabolism
Opioid drugs are effective analgesics, however, they are also associated with significant side effects, such as respiratory depression and addiction. These limitations urge the discovery of novel molecules that can reduce pain without such side effects. During his PhD thesis, Amit Kumar developed a novel approach to modulate the molecular target of opioid drugs, the μ-opioid receptor, by desigining biologics and peptide ligands with unique pharmacological profiles.
