Earth Science Department

Nicolas Greber is a geologist and research scientist at the Natural History Museum of Geneva. After earning his degree and PhD from the AV¶ÌÊÓƵ of Bern in 2014, he continued his career as a postdoctoral researcher, first at the AV¶ÌÊÓƵ of Chicago in the United States and then at UNIGE. From 2019 to June 2024, he served as an SNSF-funded professor at the AV¶ÌÊÓƵ of Bern, supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).

His research focuses on the formation and evolution of the Earth's continental crust and the impact of these processes on the development of life. He also applies various geochemical tools to sedimentary archives to better understand changes in the Earth's surface environments and atmosphere during the Precambrian. As a researcher at the Natural History Museum of Geneva, Nicolas Greber is also deeply involved in managing its scientific collection of minerals and rocks, contributing to exhibitions, and engaging in science outreach activities.

His appointment as a voluntary full professor at UNIGE in August 2024 will further strengthen collaboration and scientific exchanges with the Natural History Museum.
