Prof. Michel Rickhaus
Assistant Professor
School of Chemistry and Biochemistry
Michel Rickhaus has been awarded the prestigious Sandoz Chair of the Sandoz Family - Monique de Meuron Philanthropic Foundation program for up-and-coming academics to become Assistant Professor in the Department of Organic Chemistry at the AV¶ÌÊÓƵ in August 2023. Michel Rickhaus obtained his PhD from the AV¶ÌÊÓƵ of Basel in 2015. After a post-doctorate at Oxford AV¶ÌÊÓƵ, he began his independent career at the AV¶ÌÊÓƵ of Zurich in 2019, supported by an Ambizione grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation. Since then, Michel Rickhaus has been interested in creating particularly original and complex molecular architectures, with the aim of gaining a fundamental understanding of non-planar morphologies and their dynamic behavior, in order to establish rules governing their supramolecular arrangement. His research themes - which rely heavily on organic synthesis - are particularly important for the training of students. Michel Rickhaus has received several awards of excellence for the quality of his teaching, in particular for his use of molecular visualization tools accessible to all.
