Focus on Science Careers 2024

In March 2024, the Faculty of Science successfully hosted "Focus on Science Careers 2024", drawing over 160 students to explore the many career opportunities available in the sciences. Under the theme "Shape your future: discover your career opportunities in science", the event offered a rich program of workshops and networking sessions to illuminate the varied paths a science graduate can embark upon.

The event covered a broad spectrum of topics, from practical workshops on transitioning from academia to industry, guided by insights from UNIGE alumni, to sessions on the implications of artificial intelligence in job searches. In the "Steps for a Successful Transition from Academia to Industry" workshop, industry experts and UNIGE alumni provided practical advice to help students navigate the corporate world efficiently. The "Meet Your Alumni" event also facilitated connections, allowing students to engage with seasoned professionals from various scientific disciplines and offering a firsthand look at potential career paths.

These gatherings not only provided a roadmap for students contemplating their career trajectories but also emphasized the importance of versatility and open-mindedness in today's ever-evolving job market. Integrating technology and AI into the job search and application process was a recurring theme, reflecting the increasing role of digital tools in shaping professional futures.

Such events play a crucial role in preparing science students for the realities of the job market. The sessions, by offering insights into both traditional and non-traditional career paths—from industry and entrepreneurship to consulting and beyond—underscore the Faculty of Science's commitment to supporting its students' professional development. Through sharing experiences, fostering dialogue, and building networks, we equip our future scientists with the knowledge and connections to navigate their careers confidently and naturally.

The enthusiastic participation and the diverse discussions highlight our students' eagerness to learn and adapt, qualities that will undoubtedly serve them well in their future endeavors. We thank all participants, speakers, and organizers for contributing to the event's success and look forward to continuing to support our students' career aspirations in the years to come.
