Biography
Anne Verhamme obtained her PhD degree in Astronomy at the AVƵ (Switzerland) in 2008, under supervision of D. Schaerer, working on Lyman-alpha radiation transfer effects in galaxies. In 2009, she was an SNF fellow at the Astrophysics department of Oxford AVƵ, working in the galaxy formation group with J. Silk, A. Slyz and J. Devriendt. From 2010 to 2012, she obtained a european Marie Curie fellowship to work at CRAL, in Lyon, in the galaxy formation team with R. Bacon, PI of VLT-MUSE, and J. Blaizot, to compute the Lyman-alpha properties of virtual galaxies. Since sept 2012, she has an independent post-doc position at the AVƵ (Excellence Fellow of the AVƵ for 3 years, “Marie Heim Vogtlin” SNF Fellow for 2 years) and works on spectral diagnostics to study the escape of ionising photons and gas flows around galaxies, at the interface between simulations (coupling our radiation transfer code with radiation hydrodynamical simulations of galaxy formation) and observations (as a member of the MUSE consortium, and Associated Researcher at CRAL, Lyon).
Research interests
- radiation transfer of resonant lines (Lyman-alpha in particular) in astrophysical media: predictions from numerical simulations, comparison with observations
- formation and evolution of galaxies
- reionisation of the Universe, and the escape of ionising photons from galaxies
- gas flows around galaxies
- polarisation of Lyman-alpha nebulae: predictions from numerical simulations, comparison with observations
Miscellaneous
- organizer of the 2016 Saas-Fee course on
- member of the LARS (Lyman Alpha Reference Sample) project
- member of the VLT-MUSE consortium, involved in the characterisation of Lyman-alpha emitting galaxies in MUSE deep fields
- collaboration with 3 american teams to work on Hubble Space Telescope data to study the lyman-alpha properties of local Extreme Emission Lines galaxies
- referee for ApJ, A&A, MNRAS
