HIGHLIGHTS

New name

The research services changes its name to the Research and Grants Office.

Our versatile service contributes to the excellence of scientific research at UNIGE, supporting UNIGE researchers at all stages of funding their projects, but also when they apply for career scholarships. Our multidisciplinary team of 18 people is at the disposal of researchers for any request for information, for personalised advice and to help them establish useful links to the development of their projects or careers in connection with regional and national (PolN) research as well as European and international (Euresearch) research. We also advise SMEs and companies on their project submissions under the European Framework Programme.

Training courses related to your SNSF submissions

Throughout the semester, the UNIGE Library offers training courses to enable researchers to meet the requirements of the SNSF, whether for submitting an application, publishing in Open Access or sharing research data:
Using an ORCID identifier for your research (an ORCID is now required for all new SNSF applications)
- SNSF Data Management Plan (DMP): how to fill it in and what information to include?
- 3 things to know about Open Access before submitting your article, in 15 minutes
- Where to archive and share research data? in 15 minutes

All these trainings are free of charge but require registration.

Open Access Week

From October 24 to 28, 2022, the UNIGE Library is organizing a series of events to celebrate the :
- Trainings on Open Access, Creative Commons licenses and the new repository interface of the UNIGE
- Stands in the main buildings on campus
- Posters on the subject, which present the number of repositories in the Archive ouverte for each of the UNIGE faculties.

on eInfrastructures Organized by European Union, this webinar is dedicated to the development of National infrastructures in EOSC.
Two online workshops focused on the collaboration of eInfrastructures at the EU level presenting what is happening, how they propagate, how they extend and execute such collaborations at the national level and in the framework of EOSC Future. 

MSCA - Staff exchanges

Infoevent Euresearch - MSCA-Staff Exchanges
The Marie SkÅ‚odowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) are the European Union's reference programme for doctoral education and postdoctoral training.
In this online infoevent, Euresearch will introduce the MSCA Staff Exchanges (SE), an action to promote collaborative research and innovation projects through global and cross-sector staff exchanges.
Join the event to learn more about the specifics of the 2022 SE call, eligibility criteria, the proposal, and how the action is implemented. We will explain how Swiss-based institutions can participate and put a special focus on the participation of companies.

MSCA - COFUND

Info-event Euresearch - MSCA-COFUND
Through co-funding of new or existing doctoral and postdoctoral programmes, the MSCA COFUND action promotes sustainable training and international, interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral mobility. COFUND spreads the MSCA’s best practices by promoting high standards, excellent working conditions, training and career development. 
In this infoevent you will be informed about the 2022 call, main rules and requirements. Particular emphasis will be placed on how institutions based in Switzerland can participate.

SUCCESS STORIES

PRIMA

From the 124 projects submitted in this last PRIMA 2021 Call, 17 projects have been selected for funding by SNSF (success rate of 13.7%).
We congratulate Dr Amandine Guérin, new laureate of the AV¶ÌÊÓƵ, who will conduct her research within the Faculty of Medicine in th Department of Microbiology and Molecular Medicine for her project entitled: "Characterization of the human parasite Cryptosporidium".

AMBIZIONE

473 applications were submitted for the 15th AMBIZIONE 2021 call, of which the SNSF awarded 83 new grants (success rate of 17.5%).
The AV¶ÌÊÓƵ will welcome 18 laureates who will carry out their research in the Faculty of Medicine (7), Faculty of Science (6), Faculty of Humanities (3) and at the Geneva School of Social Sciences (2). Read about their projects below.

Swiss Postdoctoral Fellowships

Four UNIGE projects have been selected by the SNSF within the framework of the call ‘Swiss Postdoctoral Fellowships 2021’:
- Dr Johannes Motruk Emergence and detection of strongly correlated topological phases in moiré materials, under the supervision of Prof Dmitry Abanin – Department of Theoretical Physics (Faculty of Science)
- Dr Peter Macharia ICON: Impacts of Climatic and environmental changes on accessibility to emergency Obstetric and Neonatal care in sub-Saharan Africa, under the supervision of Prof Nicolas Ray – Institute of Global Health (Faculy of Medicine)
- Dr Nesli Ece Sen Intracellular glucose sensing in growth, under the supervision of Prof Robbie Loewith – Department of Molecular and Cell Biology (Fac Science)

Quantum Transitional Call (transitional measure Horizon Europe)

SNSF has launched a new transitional measure “Quantum Transitional Call” for researchers in Switzerland who are excluded from quantum topics of the Horizon Europe call “Digital and emerging technologies for competitiveness and fit for the green deal”. The call is aimed at researchers in Switzerland who are affected by the exclusion from participation in the above mentioned call’s quantum-related topics.

SPIRIT

​The Swiss Programme for International Research by Scientific Investigation Teams () promotes team-oriented cross-border research.

SINERGIA

The programme from SNSF promotes the interdisciplinary collaboration of two to four research groups that propose breakthrough research.

BRIDGE

Proof of Concept is aimed at young researchers who wish to develop an application or service based on their research results. These projects may target innovations of all kinds from all research areas.

CALLS FOR PROJECTS - SNSF CAREERS

AMBIZIONE

Ambizione grants are aimed at young researchers who wish to conduct, manage and lead an independent project at a Swiss higher education institution.


Submission deadline: November 1st, 2022

Swiss Postdoctoral Fellowships (transitional measure Horizon Europe)

Research fellowships in all scientific domains (with free choice of topic) for researchers who have not resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Switzerland for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately prior to the submission deadline. They are addressed to researchers who obtained their doctoral degree no more than 8 years before the submission deadline (some exceptions apply).

MD-PhD

: Support for the scientific further education of MDs

Swiss Professorial Fellowships

This new instrument is aimed at outstanding researchers who are on their way to becoming professors. SNSF Professorial Fellowship holders will be able to conduct their own research project with their own team at assistant professor level for five years.
Moreover, up to 14 projects by women will receive additional funding from the budget of the former PRIMA instrument.

CALLS FOR PROJECTS - EUROPEAN PROJECTS

INTERREG

ÌýÌý

Europe is an interregional cooperation programme, co-funded by the European Union, designed to reduce disparities in the levels of development, growth and quality of life in and across Europe’s regions.
Swiss partners participate in the Interreg programmes with full rights and can benefit from Swiss federal, cantonal or regional co-financing. Several calls are currently open in the new programming period 2021-2027:
For the Interreg “” programme, submissions for small scale projects are open until December 16, 2022.
Submissions for (large) classic projects will open in Spring 2023.
For the Interreg final submissions close on October 28, 2022.
For the Interreg- programme, the first calls are expected this autumn.

HE-MSCA

HE-MSCA - Doctoral Networks (previously “Innovative Training Networks”)
Doctoral networks implemented by universities, research institutions and businesses, with the aim of training a new generation of researchers.
Possible for institutions in Switzerland to participate as “Associated Partner” with SERI funding.
Submission deadline: November 15, 2022

HE - Digital - Cluster 4

Progress in digital technologies shape all sectors of the economy and society. Research and Innovation actions in this Cluster focus on strengthening the global competitiveness of the European digital sector while taking into account key environmental and societal challenges like sustainability or inclusiveness.
Possible for institutions in Switzerland to participate as “Associated Partner” with SERI funding.

HE - Digital - Cluster 3

Cluster 3, “Civil Security”, supports the implementation of EU policy priorities relating to security, including cybersecurity, infrastructure protection and disaster risk reduction. At this moment, different   : - Fighting crime and terrorism (23.11.2022) ; - Resilient Infrastructure (23.11.2022) ; - Border Management (23.11.2022) ;  - Desaster-Resilient Society (23.11.2022);  - Support to Security Research and Innovation (23.11.2022); -  Increased Cybersecurity (16.11.2022).

HE - Space - Cluster 4

Maximising the benefits for society and the economy, fostering competitiveness and innovation, reinforcing Europe's autonomy in accessing and using space: all this comprises the European Commission's "Space Strategy for Europe". Opportunities in this Cluster range from Earth observation and navigation systems, to enabling technologies such as launchers, propulsion systems, electronics and robotics.
Restrictions to the participation of Swiss entities may apply in some topics. For more information refer to the .

HE - MSCA - Staff Exchanges

The aim is to develop sustainable collaborative projects between different organisations from the academic and non-academic sectors (in particular SMEs), based in Europe and beyond. Exchanged staff benefit from new knowledge, skills and career development perspectives, while participating organisations increase their research and innovation capacities.
Possible for institutions in Switzerland to participate as “Associated Partner” with SERI funding.
