Federico Petrolo obtained a Bachelor degree in Political Science and a Master degree in International Relations - Politics and Institutions of the European Union at the AV¶ÌÊÓÆµ of Roma Tre, Italy.
He then completed his studies with an MSc in European Studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), UK, and a MAS in Public Administration (MPA), at the Institut des Hautes Études en Administration Publiques (IDHEAP) at the AV¶ÌÊÓÆµ of Lausanne.
He began his career in research administration at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. In 2008, he was hired as administrative manager of 2 FP7 European collaborative projects coordinated by the Institute of Particle Physics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ).
In 2015, he joined the Research and Grants Office (RGO) of UNIGE where he took on the responsibility for the third pillar (Societal challenge) of the H2020 framework program, as well as of the projects funded by US federal agencies such as the NIH.
At the begining of the Horizon Europe framework program he assumed the responsibility of several clusters, mainly Cluster 1 - Health, Cluster 5 - Climate, Energy and Mobility, and Cluster 6 - Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment.
He has been in charge of these clusters until early 2025. Currently he concentrates on supporting researchers applying for private funding or for funding from US federal agencies.
Within the RGO, he is also involved in cross-functional activities concerning administrative streamlining.
