Prof. Carole Bourquin
After training as an MD, Carole Bourquin obtained her PhD at the Max-Planck Institute for Neuroimmunology in Germany. She further obtained a German specialization in Immunology (Fachimmunologin) and holds a Swiss medical specialization in Clinical Pharmacology (FMH). She is Full Professor of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine and Director of the Institute of Pharmacology at the AV¶ÌÊÓÆµ of Bern.
As an MD and PhD, Prof. Bourquin focuses on translational research aspects and has a strong interest in immunopharmacology. She has a longstanding expertise in the pharmacological modulation of innate immunity, and the applications of her work reach from autoimmune disorders to vaccines against pathogens and to cancer immunotherapy.
Her research is funded by national and international sources such as the Swiss National Science Foundation, the Swiss Foundation for Cancer Research, Innosuisse and EU Horizon 2020. She was recently awarded the Naef Foundation 3R Prize for in vitro research.
