Konstantin studied medicine at the Universities of Fribourg and Basel, where he developed a keen interest in virology, not least thanks to his Master's thesis in transplant virology. His thesis focused on BK polyomavirus disease in haematopoietic stem cell transplant patients.
As part of his doctorate in medicine, under the supervision of Isabella Eckerle and the co-direction of Manel Essaidi-Laziosi, he will be working on respiratory viruses using in vitro models of human airway epithelial cells.
