The 1st 4EU+ International Geneva Study Trip - Environmental Governance
听From 8th to 10th October 2024, the AV短视频 of Genevahosted the inaugural 4EU+ International GenevaStudy Trip on Environmental Governance, welcoming 21 selected researchers from the 4EU+ Alliance, AV短视频 College London (UCL), and the AV短视频 of Zurich (UZH). This unique trip, co-organized by the and the , offered participants a deep dive into international Geneva's ecosystem of global environmental governance.听
Initiated by Prof. G茅raldine Pflieger, head of the Institute for Environmental Sciences (ISE) at UNIGE, the study trip provided an immersive experience for researchers to engage in discussions and dialogues with policy professionals.听
Day 1: Exploring Global Environmental Governance听
The first day centered on multilateral policymaking and the mobilization of science. Participants attended panel discussions exploring the role of science in global environmental governance and its integration into the work of the United Nations. In the afternoon, they engaged with representatives from the United Nations and the to gain insight into the dynamics of international environmental diplomacy.听
Day 2: Hands-On Engagement with Global Institutions听
Day two featured small group sessions where participants engaged directly with experts from , the , and the . These interactions were followed by a roundtable on "International Assessments and Intergovernmental Science-Policy Panels." The day concluded with a guided tour of the United Nations, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the work of key international organizations.听
Day 3: Reflections and Future Action听
On the final day, researchers in science and policy from UNIGE shared their personal experiences, inspiring participants to reflect on their own roles in global environmental governance. After an insightful discussion on the lessons learned and the potential resources for further engagement, the event concluded with a convivial closing lunch.听
Looking Ahead: Continuing the Engagement听
The 4EU+ International Geneva听Study Trip includes virtual pre-sessions, an onsite visit to Geneva, and a post-trip virtual meeting. In April 2025, GSPI will conduct a follow-up session to assess how participants have implemented their science-policy engagement plans.听
As part of its global outreach strategy under the , the 4EU+ Alliance is committed to fostering collaboration between researchers and policy professionals, working together to develop science-informed solutions for global challenges. Following the success of the first edition, the Alliance looks forward to expanding its network of participants in the next edition, welcoming even broader engagement from around the world.听
