COP29 : From the GST to the new round of NDCs, how to keep 1.5 alive ?

is at the intersection between the first (GST) and the last COP28 decision – recalling the targets and calling for an intense energy transition in the paragraph 28 – and the ongoing preparation of the next (NDCs) which will have to take into account the GST, as mentioned in the article 14 of the . This moment is key to promote NDCs that would be align on the 1.5° limit and the risk of overshoot, in a context of dramatically rising risks and impacts. In this crucial context, from the GST to the new round of NDCs, how to keep 1.5 aliveÌý?

To discuss this issue, a session was held on November 15, 2024. In alignment with Polar Oceans Day, the panel delved into international environmental and climate negotiations, emphasizing governance mechanisms and collaborative strategies that address global environmental challenges impacting polar regions and beyond. The speakers also highlighted the significance of polar ecosystems and the urgent need for concerted efforts to protect these vulnerable areas, where the impacts of climate change are especially pronounced.
