Physics resonates
What is a resonance? How does sound propagate through the air? With Professor Dirk van der Marel, a renowned physicist from the AV¶ÌÊÓƵ, the will explore the intricacies of physics in music during a concert-conference.Â
Budding scientists or amateurs, students, physicists or simply curious music lovers, if you want to understand :
- What makes a chord consonant or dissonant?Â
- Why can a piano or an organ only be out of tune?Â
- Is the sound of the Alpine horn higher or lower on the Matterhorn?
- And at the North Pole, in the Sahara, or on Mars?Â
- What material is needed for a brass instrument?Â
... don't hesitate, this evening is made for you! And for those who are allergic to mathematical formulas and other theorems, don't worry, music will play a large part in this programme, in particular Bach and his famous Goldberg Variations.Â
