Prof. Bakker receives the Reilley Award 2024

Prof.Eric Bakker,Department of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistryis being awarded thefor his outstanding achievements in Analytical Chemistry.Since 1984, starting with Prof. Allen Bard, theCharles N.Reilly Award celebrated every year exceptional Chemists in the field of Analytical Chemistry.

Prof. Eric Bakker declared “I feel quite humbled receiving this, knowing that many top scientists I deeply admire are among the past recipients of the award”.

Prof. Eric Bakker will receive theReilly Award 2024during a ceremony organized at thePittcon 2024 Conference in San Diego on February 25.

PROF. ERIC BAKKER RESEARCH

Theresearchinterestof Prof. Eric Bakkerfocuses on the development,theunderstanding, andtheapplication of chemical sensors. His researchgroup works on advancing physicochemical principles and models, synthesizing molecular recognition materials (including polymers), and undertaking in-house sensor integration and prototyping. The developed chemical sensors are deployed in real-world settings, such as aquatic systems and hospitals, to directly contribute to practical applications. Prof. Bakker has published more than 400 publications, being cited more than 30,000 times, and submitted 14 patent applications, demonstrating his strong commitment to the advancement of science in Analytical Chemistry andthat has been recognizedby his peers.

About Prof. Eric Bakker

Eric Bakker,full professor at the AVƵ, is currently the headofInorganic and Analytical ChemistryDepartment and deputy president of the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Afterobtaining his PhD from ETH Zurichunder the supervision of Prof.Wilhelm Simon, Eric Bakker joined Prof.Mark Meyerhoff atthe AVƵ of Michiganfor his postdoctoral studies.He started his independent academic career at Auburn AVƵ inthe USAin 1995where he was appointedfull professor in 2003. In 2005, hemovedto Purdue AVƵ as a tenured full professor. Two years later, in 2007, he assumed the roles of professor and institute director at Curtin AVƵ in Western Australia.Finally, in 2010,Prof. Eric Bakkerjoined the AVƵ.
