Liala is a postdoctoral researcher. She is affiliated to the Institute of Sociological Research of the AV¶ÌÊÓÆµ and the She is also a researcher at the Institute of Environmental Governance and Territorial Development (IGEDT – UNIGE), where she contributes to the SNSF-funded project "". Moreover, she is involved in research and teaching at the .

Liala Consoli completed her PhD in Sociology at the AV¶ÌÊÓÆµ in 2024. She worked as a research assistant for the SNSF-funded , an interdisciplinary prospective and mixed-methods study on the impact of a regularisation programme on the health and living conditions of undocumented migrants in Geneva. Based on a longitudinal qualitative fieldwork she conducted, her doctoral thesis "Transitioning out of undocumented life and building a path forward: navigating aspirations and constraints" (thesis by publicaiton) analyses how illegalisation and regularisation  policies shape migrants' aspirations and vulnerabilities over time. Liala was awarded a to further develop the longitudinal qualitative methodology she implemented in her PhD, during a research stay at the .

Beyond her doctoral research, Liala has conducted research projects and carried out in-depth social policy evaluations across a diverse range of critical social issues, including homelessness, home services for the elderly, support for socially vulnerable families and adolescents, and inequalities in the aftermath of the COVID19 pandemic. In addition, she helped to implement a mentorship program for refugee students in the context of the "Horizon academique" initiative at the AV¶ÌÊÓÆµ.
