Mélanie PETREMONT, teaching assistant Mélanie-Evely Pétrémont is PhD candidate and teaching assistant in the Department of Geography and Environment since September 2016. She obtained a master's degree in sociology at the AV¶ÌÊÓÆµ. Her sociology thesis is on Marian apparitions and urban space in Fátima, Portugal. She also obtained a master's degree in philosophy at the AV¶ÌÊÓÆµ of Paris 8 - Vincennes Saint-Denis where she studied in her thesis the concepts of life and resistance based on the work of Georges Canguilhem, Michel Foucault and Judith Butler. She is Visiting scholar at the CRIA (), AV¶ÌÊÓÆµ of Lisbon in the fall semester 2020. |

Research Her doctoral research, supervised by Prof. Jean-François Staszak (Unige) and Prof. Philomena Essed (Antioch AV¶ÌÊÓÆµ), focuses on everyday racism and the mobilization of humor in the theatrical performance of black actresses in Europe, based on ethnographic case studies in Switzerland and Portugal. She has previously collaborated on several research projects, in philosophy and epistemology of life sciences (Paris-Sorbonne - France), in sociology of social movements (AV¶ÌÊÓÆµ, City AV¶ÌÊÓÆµ London), on anti-black racism in Switzerland (AV¶ÌÊÓÆµ / Swiss Migration Forum). She participated in the program of the Bank of Images and Visual Effects (BIEV) within the Visual Anthropology Unit of the UFRGS (Brazil). |

Teaching Mélanie is involved in the Bachelor's program in geography (cultural geography; quantitative methods) and the Master's program in political and cultural geography (documentary production workshop; qualitative methods). |
