Which laws will countries use to curb forced labor?

Reports of forced labor in China's Xinjiang province have put lawmakers on alert. In June 2022, the USA banned all imports of products that have been wholly or partially extracted or manufactured in Xinjiang. In September, the European Commission proposed a ban on forced labor products. In Switzerland, the National Council's legal commission approved a parliamentary initiative that requires companies to check whether their products contain forced labor. GSEM Professor Dorothée Baumann-Pauly comments on the uncertainty of the current situation and how these legal developments could cause major market disruptions.
