Participatory Approach

Ìý

The Centre for Physical and Mathematical Sciences (CSPM) is not merely about designing a new building. This project also aims to requalify the site and reorganise pedestrian routes between the neighbourhood and the banks of the River Arve. It therefore presents an opportunity to rethink the layout of its immediate surroundings.

A citizen-led participatory process has allowed the full involvement of the university community, local residents, and users of the area in discussions about the project. Its objective was to gather observations, experiences, needs, and expectations from the various stakeholders in relation to the site, enriching the project with lived knowledge.

The participatory approach drew on surveys and a series of meetings and exchanges held between November 2023 and mid-2024.
This process resulted in the production of a Sensitive and Usage-Based Diagnostic Report, as well as a set of Intention Notebooks, which can be accessed in their French version. These documents were also shared with the teams organising the architectural competition.

An internal consultation involving all categories of future users of the building was also carried out to define the requirements and needs, as well as to establish preliminary spatial layouts and size estimations for the future building. These meetings led to the development of a feasibility study, which was presented to all users in January 2024.
