Tobias studied psychology at the Universities of Trier and Canterbury before obtaining a PhD at the AV¶ÌÊÓÆµ. He completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at New York AV¶ÌÊÓÆµ and then worked as lecturer and senior lecturer at the AV¶ÌÊÓÆµ. In 2015, he was appointed Assistant Professor at the AV¶ÌÊÓÆµ where he founded the Consumer Decision and Sustainable Behavior Lab. In 2019, he was promoted to Associate Professor and now holds the chair for Psychology of Sustainable Development. He is associate editor for the journalÌýCognition and EmotionÌýand member of the editorial advisory board of theÌýJournal of Environmental Psychology.
Tobias is interested in understanding how emotions, values, heuristics and automatic affective processes help us understand our complex environment and influence our choices, and how this knowledge can be used to promote sustainable decision and behaviors. His research integrates concepts and theories from emotion psychology, social psychology and behavioral economics with the methodological toolkit of cognitive neuroscience (behavioral measures such as response times and decisions, neuroimaging techniques such as fMRI and EEG).Ìý
