Changes in the SNSF's support for publication costs
Since January 1, 2025, the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) has implemented a new procedure for covering Open Access publication fees (APCs) for articles resulting from projects it funds.
Ìý
From now on, only unpaid invoices are eligible: reimbursement of invoices previously paid by researchers is no longer possible.
Ìý
Payment requests must be submitted via consisting of seven questions, which assess the article’s eligibility and directly send the invoice to the SNSF for payment.
Ìý
Important reminders :
To be eligible for funding, an article must:
- Be published in a fully Gold Open Access journal and undergo a peer-review process
- Not be published in a special issue
- Have at least one author who is a beneficiary of an SNSF grant or a member of an SNSF-funded project
- Acknowledge SNSF funding in the article, including the grant identifier
Ìý
Additionally, the SNSF funds eligible articles even if they are published after the grant ends, as long as they present results related to the supported research.
These publication costs are fully covered by the SNSF and are not deducted from the project's overall budget.
