Project History
Consequently to the adoption of the of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) obligating researchers to diffuse their subsidized research results electronically and free of charge, the AV¶ÌÊÓÆµ has decided to launch the Archive ouvert UNIGE.
The (DIS) and the libraries of the AV¶ÌÊÓÆµ have been given the responsibility of carrying out the project, in close collaboration with the . A support team including librarians () and academic delegates is in charge of the follow-up.
Archive ouverte is operated with the open source software . Perennial storage of the documents is insured by UNIGE whereas document access is guaranteed by the attribution of a Uniform Resource name URN, unique identifier administrated by the National Library.
The records of the Archive ouverte UNIGE can be used by other document servers, either specialized (e.g. ) or general (e.g. ), allowing an even greater diffusion of the publications of the AV¶ÌÊÓÆµ.
Launched in Autumn 2008, the Archive reached 5000 documents early 2010, 10'000 six months later, and keeps growing.
